LOCATION: Papeete, Tahiti
Tahiti is just one of the five island groups that
make up French Polynesia. Papeete, French Polynesia’s
busy port capital, has a beautiful waterfront teeming
with yachts, ferries and cargo boats, as well as
a colorful and vibrant market, the Marché de
Papeete, which covers a whole city block. Tahiti’s
lush and rugged interior offers endless possibilities
for walkers and mountain climbers and reveals a stunning
landscape of soaring peaks, plateaus, waterfalls,
lava tubes and Polynesian relics.

RESIDENT DIRECTOR:
The Summer 2005 Resident Director for the Tahiti Program is Nancy Kleiber from the UHM Anthropology Department.
CURRICULUM:
All students must take two courses and be enrolled in a total of six credits. The Biology 310 course is mandatory for all participants.
EXCURSIONS:
1) Island tour of Tahiti and Paul Gauguin Museum
2) Heiva i Tahiti Festival (similar to Carnaval in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
3) Safari
* Overnight excursion to Moorea and visits to archeological
sites are available at additional cost.
APPROXIMATE PROGRAM COST:
$3,180 (2004 price)
Cost includes UPF fees, single room accommodation
at the university dorm, meals, three excursions, health insurance, and UHM Study Abroad and other incidental fees. Airfare
not included.
Note: The above costs will fluctuate from year to year.
