For spring 2009, the Resident Director is Mark Helbling from the UHM American Studies Department.  He will be offering the following two courses:

American Business School Curriculum

Students attending the American Business School may select from a variety of courses in art, business law, calculus, economics, environmental science, financial accounting, French civilization, history, international business, international finance, international marketing, math, political science, psychology and sociology.  UHM students have access to all ABS courses, provided that these courses have equivalent UHM resident credits.  In addition, students must have completed certain course pre-requisites to enroll in some ABS courses.

ABS classes are taught entirely in English, with the exception of foreign languages, by faculty who are mostly American with international experience or other nationals who have been trained in the United States.  Each class meets for two and a half to three hours once a week, for the duration of the semester.

French Language Courses at the Sorbonne

In order to take intensive language courses (Cours Pratiques or Cours Alleges) at the Sorbonne, students will be tested for language proficiency upon arrival in Paris to ensure placement at the appropriate level.  Students will study language, phonetics, conversation, and civilization in French.  Students with three or more years of French, depending upon placement results, may be eligible to enroll in seminars, or conferences, in areas such as French civilization, literature, art history, and business.  Students in the fall semester will enroll in nine hours of language, and spring students can choose either six or nine hours.

All students must be enrolled in a minimum course load of four classes or 12 credits.  Details of specific courses being offered are available at the Study Abroad Center.  Courses taken in Paris will appear on UHM transcripts as UHM credits.
