Reverse-Culture Shock

It is important to know that upon return, your child may experience “reverse culture shock”.  Some students find these adjustments more painful and difficult than the original bout of culture shock abroad.  This is due to the fact that most students do not anticipate adjustment problems at home.  Be aware that “re-entry” anxieties exist.  Encourage your child to seek an informal conversation with someone who he/she trusts.  It is a good idea to schedule an appointment with the Study Abroad Advisor to talk about the positive and negative aspects of his/her experiences abroad.
