FundingUniversity of Hawaii at Mānoa Financial Aid Services (www.hawaii.edu/fas) provides financial aid to help fund the cost of study abroad programs when applicants meet the eligibility criteria and after the appropriate procedures are followed. In order to meet the full cost of participating in a study abroad program, it is more than likely that a student must take guaranteed student loans, parent plus loans, and/or alternative loans. Students must ensure that all loan paperwork is completed together with the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) and Loan Request Form (LRF), if applicable. All necessary forms are available at UHM Financial Aid Services, Queen Lili‘uokalani Center for Student Services (QLCSS), Room 112. Please note that financial aid award checks are not available for pick-up by study abroad students. Prior to the student’s departure, the Study Abroad Center (SAC) will provide the student with a promissory note indicating the balance owed. The promissory note must be notarized and returned to SAC. UHM Financial Aid students will have their financial aid funds released approximately 10 days after confirmation of enrollment from RU. The funds owed to SAC will be electronically paid to SAC. If there is a balance, then the funds will be deposited into the student’s MYUH account and a check will be mailed to the student. If there is an outstanding amount owed to SAC or any other UHM department, the UHM cashiers office will send an invoice. Upon receipt of the invoice, the balance should be paid directly to the cashier’s office. If the student has been awarded a Parent Plus loan, the parents will receive a check. Upon receipt of this check, the parents must pay the balance owed to UH. |
