Konan
University is a private institution
of approximately 7,000 undergraduate and graduate
students. It was founded in 1951, but its history
actually began in 1923 with the founding of Konan
Gakuen, a private high school. Konan University is
located in the Okamoto area of Higashinada-ku, in
the eastern-most part of Kobe.
PROGRAM
COORDINATION
In the U.S. the program is coordinated by the UHM
Study Abroad Center. In Japan the intensive summer
language program is sponsored by the Institute of
Language and Culture and the Konan International Exchange
Center of Konan University.
The
UHM Study Abroad program has a designated UHM Resident
Director when appropriate. The Resident Director monitors
student progress and serves as an advisor, assigns
final grades and provides student support services
(such as counseling, tutoring, etc.) to UHM study
abroad students.
Classroom
facilities, in-country language instruction, excursions,
and accommodations are provided by the host institution.
Japanese language teachers are native speakers who
hold appropriate teaching credentials.
