Konan University is a private institution of approximately 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It was founded in 1951, but its history actually began in 1923 with the founding of Konan Gakuen, a private high school. Konan University is located in the Okamoto area of Higashinada-ku, in the eastern-most part of Kobe.

PROGRAM COORDINATION
In the U.S. the program is coordinated by the UHM Study Abroad Center. In Japan the intensive summer language program is sponsored by the Institute of Language and Culture and the Konan International Exchange Center of Konan University.

The UHM Study Abroad program has a designated UHM Resident Director when appropriate. The Resident Director monitors student progress and serves as an advisor, assigns final grades and provides student support services (such as counseling, tutoring, etc.) to UHM study abroad students.

Classroom facilities, in-country language instruction, excursions, and accommodations are provided by the host institution. Japanese language teachers are native speakers who hold appropriate teaching credentials.
