This program is especially designed for students who wish to complete their second-year foreign language requirement at UHM. Thus, language classes are offered at the 200-level only. The primary focus of the curriculum is Japanese language training, with specific emphasis on the development of speaking and listening skills. Language classes are small and are designed to be the equivalent of a full semester of language training at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

Students attend the intensive summer language classes four hours per day for five weeks. In addition, students will participate in supervised experiential learning two hours per week and attend japanology lectures, two hours per week, throughout the duration of the program. Classroom instruction is supplemented by numerous field trips and other extracurricular activities.

Japanese 211 & 212: Intermediate Japanese for Oral Communication (6 credits). Intensive courses focusing on Japanese speaking and listening skills at the second-year level. Prerequisite of Japanese 102 or 112. Fulfills second-year foreign language requirement.
