The
UHM Study Abroad Program in Hainan is hosted by the
College
of Liberal Arts at Hainan University. The
campus of Hainan University borders on the Qiongzhou
Strait in a setting that is characterized by picturesque
scenery. The metropolitan area of Haikou, the capital
of Hainan Province, is nearby. The University was
founded in 1983 with the approval of the State Council,
and serves as successor to the privately run Hainan
University, which was orginally founded in 1947.
PROGRAM
COORDINATION
The UHM Study Abroad program has a designated UHM
Resident Director when appropriate. The Resident Director
will monitor students' progress, serve as an advisor,
assign final grades and provide student support services
such as counseling and tutoring to UHM study abroad
students. Classroom facilities, in-country language
instruction, excursions, and accommodations are provided
by the host institution. Mandarin will be taught by
faculty of the College of Liberal Arts of Hainan University,
who hold appropriate teaching credentials and are
native speakers and specialists of Chinese language
teaching.
