Students
earn eight Chinese language credits at the intermediate,
third, or fourth levels. Upon arrival in Hainan all
students take a language placement exam (written and
oral). According to the results of the placement exam,
students are placed at the appropriate language level
in order to maximize language learning. Students at
each level study grammar, syntax, reading, writing
and conversation. The objectives are for the students
to gain listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills in standard Mandarin. In addition, lectures
on civilization and culture will be given on a bi-weekly
basis followed by discussion sessions. Classes meet
four hours per day, five days a week for the entire
duration of the program.
