The UHM Semester in Florence offers students courses both in English and Italian.  Students must take at least one of the two courses offered by the UHM Resident Director, when applicable. 

For the Fall 2008 semester, the Resident Director is John Rieder from the UHM English Department.  He will be teaching the following two courses:

• ENG 270: Introduction to Literature - Italian Fiction (W focus)

• ENG 433: Studies in 19th Century Literature - Shelley, Byron, Italy, and Romanticism   (W focus)

For the Spring 2009 semester, the Resident Director is Cristina Bacchilega from the UHM English Department.  She will be teaching the following two courses:

• ENG 272: Introduction to Literature: Culture & Literature - Florence and Tuscany in Literature (W focus)

• ENG 480: Studies in Folklore and Literature - The Italian Fairy Tale (W focus)

 

In addition to the Resident Director’s courses, students select classes from the three main divisions at Lorenzo de' Medici:

The Art Institute of Florence (classes taught in English)

Courses in Fashion Design, Textiles, Graphic Arts, Painting & Drawing, Mixed Media, Interior Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking, Jewelry, Restoration, and Performing Arts.

Academic Programs (classes taught in English)

Courses in International Business, International Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Mass Communication, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Art History, History of Architecture, Literature, Classical Studies, Philosophy, Women's Studies, and Italian Cuisine.

Italian Language School (classes taught in Italian)

Courses in Italian Language (beginning, intermediate, & advanced levels), Art History, Literature, Performing Arts.

All courses are taught in English (with the exception of Italian language) by professors at Lorenzo de Medici.  Approved ourses taken at LdM will appear on UHM transcripts as UHM credits.  Click here for more information.
